Create a publish instance from an author instance?

Hello,

Is it possible to make a copy of an operating CQ 5.5 SP1 author instance and turn it into a publish instance by merely changing the bin/start script to reflect "publish" and a new port number?  That would seem quite painless when you had to replace a corrupted publish instance.

If not, what is the simplest way to replace a publish instance?
